Y-shaped filter is an indispensable filtration system in pipeline systems, used for transporting fluid media. The following is the working principle and correct installation method of the Y-shaped filter:
1、 Working principle of Y-shaped filter
Y-shaped filters are usually installed at the inlet end of pressure reducing valves, relief valves, constant water level valves, or other equipment to remove impurities from the medium and protect the normal use of valves and equipment. The Y-shaped filter has the characteristics of advanced structure, low resistance, and convenient discharge. It mainly consists of a connecting pipe, main pipe, filter screen (filter blue), flange, flange cover, and fasteners.
When the fluid enters the filter cartridge with a certain specification of filter screen, solid impurity particles are blocked in the filter basket (filter cartridge), and the clean filtrate is discharged from the filter outlet through the filter basket. The reason why the filter mesh forms a cylindrical filter basket is to improve its strength and be more firm than a single-layer mesh. The flange at the lower end of the Y-shaped interface can be unscrewed to remove granular impurities deposited in the filter basket on time.
For some Y-shaped filters with automatic cleaning function, when impurities in the fluid deposit on the filter screen and create a pressure difference, the pressure difference switch is used to monitor the pressure difference changes at the inlet and outlet. When the pressure difference reaches the set value, the electronic controller will send signals to the hydraulic control valve and drive motor, triggering a series of cleaning actions. After the entire cleaning process is completed, the system returns to its initial state and begins the next filtration process.
2、 The correct installation method for Y-shaped filters
Cleaning the pipeline: Before installing the Y-shaped filter, the flange connection surface of all pipelines should be carefully cleaned to ensure that the pipelines are clean and free of impurities.
Prepare sealing material: Use an appropriate amount of pipeline sealant or Teflon tape (polytetrafluoroethylene) for sealing, but do not treat the end threads to prevent the sealing material from entering the pipeline system.
Determine installation method: Y-shaped filters can be installed horizontally or vertically downwards. However, it should be noted that non-metallic gaskets are prone to damage at high temperatures, so a suitable installation method should be chosen to avoid the impact of high temperatures.
Pay attention to the direction of the filter: When installing, pay attention to the direction of the filter. For example, the direction of the filter screen for gas pipelines should be horizontal, while the filter screen for liquid pipelines should be installed facing downwards.
Connecting the pipeline: Connect the Y-shaped filter to the pipeline and ensure that the connection is firm and leak free.
Inspection and debugging: After equipment installation, technicians will debug and set the filtering time and cleaning conversion time. Ensure that the filter is functioning properly and check for any leaks at the valve connection points.
In addition, for ease of maintenance, the Y-shaped filter should be installed and used together with the shut-off valve. Globe valves should be installed upstream and downstream of the Y-shaped filter. Once the Y-shaped filter needs maintenance, the upstream and downstream globe valves can be closed to cut off the connection between the Y-shaped filter and the system. At the same time, in order not to delay normal use during system maintenance, it is best to install a bypass pipeline while installing the Y-shaped filter.
In summary, the working principle of the Y-shaped filter is simple and clear, and the correct installation method can ensure its optimal performance. During the installation process, it is necessary to strictly follow the specifications to ensure the stability and safety of the filter.
